Not getting all the info you need from Magic?
Make us your home page. I've been trying to set up a macro that
will do this automatically but till then and since 99.8% of you are
using Internet Explorer, from IE go into
"Tools" select "Options" and then under Home Page click "Use Current"
Viola! you are done! We update the Bulletin
Board section almost daily now you too will know as much about Magic as
anyone else.
You might also go into the options
section of your e-mail program and set it to check for e-mail every 2
minutes. The default is usually around 30 minutes.
All
of our accounting reports are available to the membership in Adobe's PDF
file format. This program is necessary to open any Player Accounts received by e-mail.
Adobe® Reader®
is free software that allows everyone from business professionals to
home users to easily and reliably view, print, and search PDF files
using a variety of platforms and devices.
There are a couple of add-ons available with
this download. Make sure you deselect them if you don't want them.
By default they are selected and add greatly to your download time.
I like to save my downloads. I create a folder in "My documents"
called Downloads and save it there. But you can click directly on
"run" when prompted and let the program do all the work.
If you are using a dial up it may take a long time to
download. Set your computer to download and drink a big glass of
water before you go to bed. About the time you wake up to
relieve yourself the download should be complete.
We use Microsoft Web Expression
for the web, MS Word and Excel 2003 for files and
QuickBooks Pro 2007 for Accounting. All player and team forms are
also available to the membership for the asking. The
information is of course kept off the website.
We
can translate into just about any file format
if we know what you are using. Generally MS Word which ships with
many computers will open these files without translation. You may
need to go into the program itself, and open the file that way instead
of simply clicking on the file name. When doing that go to the
"Open File type" and set it to Excel (.xls) or Word (.doc)
Problems occur most frequently with
older versions of the software. Again we can translate the files
into older formats.
So you don't you what version you
are using? Easy, open the program and go into he help menu.
Click on "About ..." and it will be right there. Cut
(Ctrl-C) and paste (Ctrl-V) the version info into an
e-mail and send it to webmaster at
delawaremagic.org
Ok so you
asked for the team roster and received the file
"Magic Master Roster 2005".
You opened it in your favorite spreadsheet program and hit print.
Now you can't read it. Well that's right, because the file is a
large database and not a file meant to be printed directly.
YOU have to choose what info you want to print.
So how do we do that? First
rename the file using "Save As" Pick a name you like "Big Bird's Buddies"
Now depending on your spreadsheet
program we are going to get rid of the data we don't want. Excel,
Quattro let you hide the columns and rows. Highlight the column or
rows you don't want to print. Go to "format" and then "rows or column" and
hit "hide". Start with the column called "update"
and give it a try. Lotus has a similar function, I don't remember
the commands though. If you a using Works Spreadsheet, you do
almost the same thing but you will "delete" the row or column instead. Good thing you renamed the file huh.
Now you've rid yourself of all
that extra information. Whatever program you are using has a print
preview function. Click on it. Click on "set up".
Choose the option "print to fit".
Oh my it is still too small. Try this: Under orientation choose
landscape. That should be little better. My guess it
is still too small. Try using "legal"
under paper size. Don't forget to actually use legal size paper.
You may need to set the print size to 1 sheet wide. Set the
"high" setting to 10 sheets. Are you getting to much blank space? You may need to
exit from "print" and set "print area"
from under the file menu. Highlight the area you want to print and
choose "set print area"and then go back to print. You may find setting the
"margins" as narrow as possible will help. Play with it a bit, you'll get it.
Tip: I like to set my print quality to draft while I'm playing around with
the settings.
How come I don't receive my e-mail as quickly as I'd like?
All e-mail programs have a timer for checking e-mail. GO into your
options menu and find the settings. If you are using Outlook
Express, click on Tools, scroll down to Options, under the General page
change "Check for new messages" to 2 minutes, or what ever you'd like.
